Ann Banks is a journalist and writer living in New York. She has written for many publications, including The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, The Atlantic Monthly, the Washington Post, The Nation and USA Today, where she served as a member of the Board of Contributors. She edited an anthology of oral histories from the Federal Writers Project, First Person America, and co-produced a radio series for National Public Radio on the same subject. Work on the book was supported by grants from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Ford Foundation. She received a fellowship from the Alicia Patterson Foundation to write about military families. She also has published eight books for children.
